William’s tenure in the culinary industry has spanned over 15 years, working at every level from casual to fine dining. Before coming to Aviara, Chef William was the Chef and owner of Matsu in Oceanside where he was awarded Best Japanese Restaurant by San Diego Magazine from 2022 to 2025, as well as Best New Restaurant in 2022. Before Matsu, Chef ran Mission Ave Bar and Grill, where he focused on upscaling bar food, and was a major part in the elevation of Oceanside’s food scene. He has collaborated with multiple Michelin starred and James Beard awarded chefs such as Dominique Crenn, David Breeden, Jon Yao and Ron McKinlay. The Bay Area native’s work was awarded Best Chef in San Diego by Thrillist, being the only chef under 30 years old to ever win a best chef award in San Diego.
